Armenia’s payment landscape
Armenia has a national card infrastructure, international card acceptance, bank transfers and local wallet ecosystems. The Central Bank of Armenia describes ArCa as both a domestic card system and infrastructure processing local transactions involving international schemes. That distinction matters: ArCa is not simply another mobile wallet, and an international card logo does not establish that a particular merchant accepts every domestically issued card.
This guide describes documented market options, followed by practical merchant analysis. It does not establish FixPays availability or automatic approval for an overseas business. Before choosing checkout methods, separate Armenian residents, visitors and customers buying from abroad. Their cards, accounts and wallet eligibility may differ. Ask each prospective provider to confirm the legal entity it can contract, the goods it permits and the customer locations it supports.
ArCa and international cards
Acba’s ecommerce product explicitly lists ArCa, Visa, Mastercard and American Express. Its public terms distinguish locally issued Visa and Mastercard cards from foreign-issued cards, and say pricing depends on activity and volume. This provides a concrete example of multi-scheme acceptance through one bank; it is not a universal tariff or commitment by other acquirers. Acba also requests customer-facing terms, refund and privacy policies, delivery terms and an SSL certificate.
For merchants, the useful comparison is channel by channel. Ask whether the proposal covers a physical terminal, an app, a hosted checkout or a custom website. Record which card brands are actually enabled and whether cross-border cardholders can pay in the intended currency. Test authorization, capture, cancellation and refund. A successful small test purchase should not be treated as approval for a different product category, subscription model or larger ticket.
Bank transfers and settlement infrastructure
The central bank’s electronic payment system processes interbank credit transfers in real-time gross settlement mode and also supports settlement for ancillary systems. The CBA names ArcaPay among those systems. These infrastructure descriptions do not establish that a merchant has a particular instant-payment checkout product. Nor does an infrastructure-level absence of a transaction ceiling eliminate the commercial bank’s account, customer or compliance limits.
For invoice collections, obtain beneficiary details from the merchant’s bank and keep currency and payment references prominent. Match funds actually credited to the account with the invoice before shipping. Agree a process for missing references, underpayments and mistaken transfers. If a bank offers an ArcaPay-based service, request its current participating institutions, merchant use cases and confirmation interface instead of inferring features from the system name.
Idram wallet and QR acceptance
Idram’s official overview identifies QR payments, online shopping and business services among its offerings. It also describes the authorisation of the IdramNet QR system in September 2025. The CBA register lists Idram among payment organisations. A merchant should verify the relevant contracting entity and product rather than assume that every wallet user, partner institution or funding source behaves identically at checkout.
In evaluating Idram, map the customer journey from selecting the wallet to receiving an authoritative payment result. Ask how an expired QR request differs from a rejected or completed payment. Establish whether amounts and order references are generated dynamically, how staff can retrieve status and how returns reach the original payer. QR availability alone does not answer whether an overseas seller can onboard or where merchant proceeds can settle.
Telcell and EasyPay serve different business arrangements
Telcell Business separately advertises offline QR processing, online payments through Telcell Wallet and adding a service to its wallet and terminal network. These are materially different arrangements. A retailer accepting a wallet checkout should ask about order confirmation and refunds; a biller collecting account payments needs customer account identifiers and exception handling; a business hosting a terminal needs a separate understanding of its operational responsibilities.
EasyPay’s partnership page offers customer payment acceptance through easywallet QR and AirPay, alongside terminal-related partnerships. Do not equate installing a terminal with enabling a website payment method. Request the specifications for the product actually being purchased, including supported channel, transaction limits, settlement reporting and customer support. Compare the wallet experience on a customer’s device with the staff experience at the till or in the order dashboard.
Eligibility, fees and operational controls
Obtain a written commercial schedule covering processing, refunds, terminal or platform charges, withdrawals, currency conversion and settlement. A published consumer fee or wallet transfer price may not be the merchant acceptance price. Likewise, the ability to receive a domestic payment does not demonstrate permission to pay out internationally. Foreign businesses should ask specifically about local establishment, tax identifiers, settlement-account requirements and permitted ownership structures before allocating integration resources.
For recurring billing, request explicit support and the required customer authority; a wallet holding a card or an account balance does not prove that unattended renewal charges are available. For marketplaces, disclose that proceeds relate to multiple sellers and ask who must be onboarded. Keep customer-facing seller names and payment descriptors consistent. Retain records linking each payment to the order, product, customer communication and eventual settlement.
A practical rollout for Armenian customers
Start with a small method set matched to the customer mix, then measure successful completion, failed attempts, support contacts and time to usable funds. Do not rank providers solely by the number of logos offered. A method that serves local wallet users may complement cards without replacing them for visitors. A bank-transfer option can suit invoices while creating unnecessary reconciliation work for immediate digital delivery.
Before launch, test a timeout followed by a late success, duplicate notifications and a payment made after an order expires. Assign responsibility for each exception so staff do not issue both a refund and replacement goods. Keep a clear customer message when payment status is uncertain. Review contracts and the CBA provider register periodically, and recheck permissions when adding a new product, country or sales channel.
What it means to Merchants
Armenia calls for a deliberate combination of card acquiring, bank collections and locally relevant wallets. Confirm ArCa and international-card coverage separately, and evaluate Idram, Telcell and EasyPay through their specific merchant products. Require clear eligibility, settlement and refund terms before integration, with reliable order references and confirmed payment status before fulfilment. These market options need individual provider approval; their inclusion here does not represent a FixPays integration or approval for a particular business.
