Andorra’s euro payment landscape

Andorra uses the euro under a monetary agreement with the European Union while remaining outside the EU. The European Commission explains this arrangement, and the European Payments Council includes Andorra within the geographical scope of SEPA. These are different relationships: euro use concerns currency; SEPA concerns participating payment schemes. Neither statement makes an Andorran merchant identical to an EU-established merchant for every acquiring product or regulatory obligation.

For merchant planning, begin with the buyer and sale: a resident paying a monthly service bill, a visitor buying goods in person, or a foreign company settling an invoice. Each journey needs a suitable confirmation and refund process. This guide identifies documented payment options, without assigning unsupported market shares or suggesting that every Andorran business can obtain every service.

Cards at the counter and online

MoraBanc’s merchant collection catalogue includes physical terminals and virtual-terminal ecommerce acceptance with 3D Secure. That establishes a concrete local offering, rather than an assumption based only on customers holding cards. A merchant should request the supported card brands, currencies, channels and settlement account in the acquiring proposal. For a tourist-facing shop, ask how foreign-issued cards and any currency-conversion choices appear to the customer.

At a physical checkout, staff should distinguish an approval from a timeout and understand when another attempt may duplicate a sale. Online, link the provider’s transaction identifier to the order and fulfilment record. Test abandoned authentication, delayed responses, cancellation and partial refunds. Keep authorization, capture and usable settlement as separate events in reporting; a successful checkout does not necessarily mean the merchant can withdraw the proceeds immediately.

Apple Pay, Google Pay and payment links

MoraBanc documents Apple Pay for eligible cards in stores, websites and apps, and Apple’s participating-bank list includes Andorran institutions. Separately, MoraBanc’s TPV Virtual page confirms Google Pay availability in that product. Its Paygold collection listing also names cards, Bizum, Apple Pay and Google Pay. These examples demonstrate specific issuer and acceptance capabilities; they should not be converted into a claim that every bank, card or merchant channel supports every wallet.

Choose wallet presentation according to actual device and checkout eligibility. A payment link can help complete a remotely agreed purchase, but the order amount, seller name and description should remain clear before payment. Use provider-confirmed results to update the order, preserve the original transaction for refunds, and train support staff to locate wallet payments in settlement reports. Measure completed orders and support workload as well as how often customers click a wallet button.

Bizum: confirm the commercial product

MoraBanc offers Bizum to individual customers and advertises both ecommerce Bizum acceptance and Bizum Pro business collections. Its virtual-terminal page says merchants can activate Bizum through their branch. This makes Bizum relevant to an acceptance review, but a person’s ability to send money by phone number does not establish the correct product for a business checkout.

Ask the bank which merchant agreement applies, which customers can pay, how amounts and references are carried, and how staff issue refunds. Keep personal-transfer limits separate from business-service terms. For remote orders, specify the payment expiry and what happens when a customer pays after cancellation. A phone notification alone should not release goods: the business needs confirmation tied to its own collection account and order.

SEPA transfers and direct debit

The Andorran Financial Authority dates Andorra’s SEPA entry to March 2019. The EPC’s country list confirms its continuing geographical inclusion and distinguishes non-EEA jurisdictions. For euro invoices, SEPA Credit Transfer provides a bank-payment route, but merchants should confirm actual account and scheme reachability. Do not assume that standard-transfer availability also establishes SCT Inst participation, round-the-clock receipt or a particular fee.

For collections, MoraBanc’s help material states that SEPA Core direct debit began operating in Andorra on 10 May 2021. It also describes debtor-signed mandates retained by the creditor. This is evidence for Core availability, not an assurance of B2B-scheme support. Before launching subscriptions, agree mandate capture and storage, advance notices, submission deadlines, failed collections, cancellation and refund handling with the bank. Keep cancellation of a payment mandate distinct from termination of the underlying service contract.

Cash, reconciliation and rollout

Euro cash gives physical merchants another payment route, but requires its own till, receipt, deposit and security controls. Avoid forcing cash, card settlements and bank transfers into one status field. Finance should be able to trace a sale to its receipt, any deduction or refund, and the amount actually deposited. This also makes exceptions visible when a transfer arrives with an incomplete reference or a terminal batch settles later than expected.

Start with a concise provider matrix covering the contracting entity, approved activity, customer countries, methods, currencies, limits and settlement destination. Run successful and failed purchases, a duplicate attempt, cancellation, a partial refund and reporting export before launch. Compare completion, time to usable funds, total charges, reconciliation effort and customer support. Review the method mix when the business model or customer geography changes.

What it means to Merchants

Andorra offers a euro-based payment environment with documented card, wallet, Bizum and SEPA options, but the useful combination depends on the merchant’s customers and exact provider contract. Confirm each method at product and channel level, distinguish SEPA Core from other schemes, and verify instant-transfer availability separately. Build order release around trusted payment confirmation and keep a tested refund route. This market guide does not assert that FixPays integrates with or provides any particular bank, wallet or named payment method.
